My name in URL

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on June 19, 2009 by clarkykestrel

Once again it’s been a while since I posted anything on here, I wouldn’t blame a lot of you for dropping me from your feed readers by now. I’m still not really sure what I’m going to write about on this blog, for that matter I’m not sure what I am going to write about in this post, let’s find out…

Right, well, I’m currently doing my exams at college, had 2 today in fact, just the 1 more left than I am free for the summer. I always used to find it stupid when people said they were free at the end of exams, it’s not really trapping you anyway, but now I have changed my opinion. Over the last few weeks I have felt I haven’t been able to undertake any personnel projects as I have to be preparing for my exams and this year with the ending of the examination period it will signal the end of my third and final year at Strodes which has had an oppressing and depressing affect over me.

The astute among you will notice from the URL that I am now have my own domain. This is thanks to Josh who bought me it for my birthday. Well, when I say bought me it for my birthday, he intended to, it actually worked out that he kept a tally in his head of the amount of money for drinks and cinema tickets he has subbed me until the amount was enough to make me do it myself. We reached that magic figure earlier this week. So many thanks to Josh for the domain, the help setting it up and no doubt the future help he will give me.

The writing of this post has flowed quite well considering I had no idea what I was going to talk about when I started it. On a slightly off-topic note – actually there is no topic so I guess it isn’t off-topic – I had forgotten how much I like the band Say Anything, I haven’t really listened to them in a long time because they were a band I associated with an ex-girlfriend, (vagueness prevents tag cloud growth) but I now realise this was retarded I like this band way more then I ever liked her. I realise they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but they are an amazing live band (rank among the best I have seen) and I less-than-3-them. They make a nice, more mellow, change from the majority of the music I listen.

Right well I better depart now as I’m heading down the George shortly and haven’t started getting ready. I’d like to say I will post again soon but I have said that a few times without making good on my word so I’ll just leave it with farewell. :)

P.S. I know that title is a load of wank but I couldn’t think of one and it’s the only thing I could think of with any relevance to the post content.

Twitter troubles

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 16, 2009 by clarkykestrel

Wow, 2 posts in as many days! Not really sure why I am doing another post, I just have the blogging bug atm. You could never tell I am meant to be doing coursework could you. Procrastination FTW! Which reminds me of a quote I heard once;

“Procrastination is like masturbation, feels great when you are doing it but in the end you have just fucked yourself.” – Unknown

Sods law has struck again, after blogging about the fact I have Twitter yesterday I have no been troubled with issues today on it. It’s deleting my posts and now my picture is not displaying. I have filed an error report with Twitter support and am yet to hear back, however I thought the Twitter support page had an interesting concept, which seemed vaguely blog worthy with my blogging urge atm.

Twitter Support

After stating your problem you are asked to fill out a text box titled “I feel:”. I think this is quite a nice feature and makes Twitter seem more like they care about your experience using their service.

This got me wondering though if your problem gets preferential treatment based upon what you put in this box. If you put “Extremely annoyed” are you more likely to have your problem fixed sooner then someone who puts “confused” and can you use kiss arse techniques to get to the top of the pile by saying things such as “Respectful of the work Twitter support are doing on my behalf” or maybe the folks at Twitter support are more like me and appreciate some humour; I feel “like a rabbit on crack, wielding a mechanised whisk, riding a cat into the battle scene out of 300, the one with the elephants, probably with a battle cry something along the lines of “ARAHRAH I HAS TEH WHISK!”” – Thanks Chris.

So anyway I’ll go back to doing my CPT6 project and waiting for my Twitter to be fixed. There’s still 1 whole day left until the project deadline so you may get another post out of me yet, we’ll see.

So many screenshots!!!

I’ve spent most of the day working on CPT6, who for people that read my blog and didn’t take A level computing (that’s only one person I know of) is the project you do throughout your second year of A level computing. I’ve had a very productive day but now my concentration is failing me, so whilst the Rele works its way into my bloodstream I thought I’d knock out a blog post.

After I last wrote a post the benefits of writing on this blog has returned to me. I come here to rant about stuff and then I seem to be a happier person IRL. The last couple of weeks have been good, I actually bother talking to some of first years at college now rather then just sitting there wishing they were the people from my year and I’ve been putting more effort in academically. On that note I was very happy this week to get my first exam results back ever that did not show an E grade; Computing – 2 A’s, Environmental Science – B and Government and Politics – A.

Since last time I wrote I have set up a twitter account and as my friend Josh pointed out it’s weird how on Facebook I can have no desire to update my status yet on Twitter I am fine with doing it at every opportunity. Any twitterers out there can follow me here.

As much as I like coming on here and just writing posts of my rants I do feel there should be more to my blog then there currently is at times and I am struggling with where to go from here. I already have friends whos blogs review, offer technical support/reviews TV shows, show art & craft, list funny quotations and criticize everything, where is my place in the blogosphere? Is my place purely to write grouchy posts about the comings and goings of my life? I guess if it wasn’t I wouldn’t be The Rambling Grumpy Adolescent.

Hai guys!!! Long time no see

I am currently supposed to be doing my computing coursework as the deadline is looming with a large amount of work left to be done so now seems to be the perfect time to procrastinate by writing my first blog post in a very long time. I’d like to say that I can get to writing these as often/ as well as I did before, but that as yet remains to be seen.

So what has changed over time since I last wrote a blog post? Well me and Laura split up, not in the greatest of ways I hasten to add. If I know you off-internetz, you’ll likely know the, so out of order it’s funny, circumstances of this. Good riddance to her tbh.

I’m still at Strode’s, now in my 3rd year, and it sucks. Don’t get me wrong I love Strode’s, and the last 2 years there were amazing, especially compared to what it was like at school, but now I’m in my 3rd year it’s horrible. All the things that made Strode’s great in my first 2 years have now up and left for Uni. Where previously I loved my free periods because I got to spend time with my friends and now treat them with disdain as they normally involve sitting around somewhere for an hour or two either socializing with Maxwell or no one at all. That is one good aspect to come out of this I suppose, I’ve become closer with Maxwell again. Ever since I came back to college I have felt, with lack of a less pathetic word, lonely. I still get to hang out with friends outside of college, but there is something disconcerting about being somewhere you use to pass groups of friends down every corridor and now I can frequently go a week without speaking to more then 6 or 7 people there. Despite these feelings of “loneliness” I can’t bring myself to talk to anyone new at college, so I continue to walk around in my antisocial bubble looking grumpy.

With little of my free periods being spent socializing I am getting more work done and reading more books, which I suppose is good – would rather the socializing though. Another thing to change this year is that I’m now taking a Government & Politics AS, bringing the total amount of subjects I’ve studied at Strode’s up to 8. I’m really glad that I took up this course and regret not taking it up earlier. It has made me much more informed and opinionated on matters related to politics, to the annoyance of some people. It’s also strange how previously I saw Dr Jepson as mad man and that now I see him as a very respectable, yet a tad eccentric, man.

Right I feel my writing has now lost its momentum so seems like a good place to wrap up. I realize this was a pretty dull post but maybe I’ll be able to get back into the swing of things and write some good posts soon.

Bungie Conspiracy – Who is the Superintendent?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on July 15, 2008 by clarkykestrel

I haven’t posted for a long time now but the pandemonium unravelling on Bungie.net has spurred me back into action. I want to start a post that can be used to compile all possible information related what is happening on Bungie.net, who the Superintendent is and what could be coming our way in the form of Bungie’s new project. I wanted to try doing this away from Bungie.net because some people there are becoming irrational and I want to try and keep this sensible and minimize the subjectivness of it. (Feel free snap me into line if you feel I am not doing this) Here is some of the things which I have come across which could possibly be related, comment with any sensible additions you may have:

image

http://www.1019foxfm.net/ – A countdown appears here counting down to 07/08/08 18:16:00GMT. This is not confirmed to be part of Bungie and there is evidence pointing towards that it could be unrelated but it has been done in the same style as the ilovebees.com counter so is worth making mention of. I came across one thread saying that this is actually an ARG for NIN, I unfortunately I can’t find it anymore, but time I guess will tell on this one.

http://www.ilovebees.com/ – A countdown also appears counting down to a point in 2552. This is the year that a lot of the Halo story is set so nothing to do with the announcement probably.  I have no previous knowledge of ilovebees.com really, except for the fact that this was an ARG from long ago for Halo:CE, so this may have been like this for some time with the foxfm countdown being based upon it. If someone can tell me if this is a new occurrence or has been this way for a long time let me know please.

The Superintendent
The superintendent has been cropping up across the Bungie forums with many messages of warnings and advice. His most used phrase has definitely been “KEEP IT CLEAN” over time numbers appeared in place of letters when this phrase was posted no the forums. These following posts have all been sighted:

0EEP IT CLEAN
K7EP IT CLEAN
KE1P IT CLEAN
KEE4 IT CLEAN
KEEP 0T CLEAN
KEEP I8 CLEAN
KEEP IT 1LEAN
KEEP IT C0EAN
KEEP IT CL3AN
KEEP IT CLE0N

Place the numbers together in sequence and you get 0714 08 1030N. For people that have been following the drama on Bungie.net this will come as no revelation and was discovered several days ago. We all believed it was referring to the start of the E3 Microsoft Conference as it began at 10:30PDT on the 14 July 2008, it now would seem that this was not referring to the start of the Microsoft conference but the time that Bungie.net would experience some changes. I along with many others retreated to Bungie after being disappointed by the lack of announcements at E3 to find the Superintendent has taken over the Bungie front page http://www.bungie.net/defaultsi.aspx

The front page of Bungie is now adorned with “PLEASE REMAIN CALM” written in several languages, messages from the superintendent including “PLEASE REMAIN CALM”, “PROCEED WITH CAUTION”, “NO PUBLIC ACCESS”, “EXPECT DELAYS”, “PARDON OUR DUST”, “SERVICES WILL RESUME”, “OBEY POSTED LIMITS”, “EMERGENCY LIGHTS ACTIVE”,”FINAL NOTICE: BILL PAST DUE” and “KEEP IT CLEAN”. The most important aspect of this strange new front page though is the countdown timer located in the lower right. It is counting down 15:07GMT tomorrow, Wednesday 16th of July. From people looking into the source for the front page when the countdown reaches 0 it will say “REBOOTING”
Although the Superintendent has posted upon many threads he has of yet only created the one http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=21897471&postRepeater1-p=1The Superintendent is not only present on Bungie.net, he can also now be found in the start menu of Halo3. Where previously was the standard banner advertising the new Cold Storage map is now a new “corrupted” banner is present in its place with an image that looks like a sad superintendent in the top right corner along with some numbers below it.

image
The numbers that appear in this image are 12:05:37:14 the relevance of these numbers is not yet known. Could they be a time stamp? If that is the case what is it signaling?
This thread on the Bungie forums I have just come across is a good source for all the compiled information on the superintendent. http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=23367743

Links have been made between both the Superintendents sayings and the foxfm countdown to the next project being called Phoenix and various links are circulating to “support” this. However the fact is, as mentioned in the Bungie Podcast 120407, all future projects of Bungie are nicknamed Phoenix including projects prior to Halo2 and even Halo Wars was code-named Phoenix in its early stages.

An individual called RampantGaurdian has been making some unusual posts on the Bungie forums, there is a good example here if you read on, he is claiming to be a monitor and is playing a very convincing job, he seems to have a brilliant knowledge of the Halo universe and is thinking up very rational responses, I doubt him being part of Bungie’s scheme though due to the fact they gave the Superintendent coloured text and this guy only has the standard text that every user can access.

Please post your own inputs and theories in the comments.
